DJed Lindsay's Wedding & Met Another Porter Patient

Today was busy day.  It was the most active I've been since the surgery.  Most of the day went well.  However, during the late afternoon (3:00pm) until 12:00am I was DJing a wedding.  Jodi was a HUGE help with moving the equipment.  Without her, it would not have been possible.  Through that time I was on my feet and moving around for several hours.  It was a little nervous about my foot, but it ended up holding up really well.  I was also able to use 1 crutch pretty confidently.  Overall, it was a solid day.  I almost feel like it was a turning point in the recovery for me.  I just hope it wasn't all adrenaline, and that I'm not sore tomorrow.

On a side note, I got to talk with Lindsay's old IU college coach (Judy).  She had a very similar surgery by the same doctor a number of years ago.  It was great to hear about her experience and success with the process.  She said all positive things.  Nice to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Day 11 Recap - Friday, July 11, 2014 (5th dressing change) - pics

Ended up falling asleep without much of a problem, but when I woke up at 4:00am, I struggled to get back to bed.  My foot ached a little bit, but not too much.

I did my fifth dressing.  During this time the mesh barrier that was placed between my stitches and bandage fell off (steri-strips?).  This was my first time seeing the incision without the barrier.  It seems to be healing well.

I am still not down to one crutch.  I can tell it is getting stronger, but I'm just not ready yet.  You can see it's still pretty swollen and bruised.

Day 10 Recap - Thursday, July 10, 2014

Typically my nights have been the worst part of the day, but I'm happy to report that they seem to be improving.  Last night, I slept through most of the night without an issue.

The day went well.  I have been starting to test out my 1 crutch skills.  I've started to make short trips with using one crutch.  Either down the hall or to the kitchen.  I'm still not too stable, but it appears that I am starting to handle a little bit of weight on my foot.  I've noticed a definite improvement.

In the evening I went to the Extra Mile 1 mile challenge.  It was fun to get out of the house and socialize with friends, and also see the team I coach.  The girls ran well, and most improved their time from several weeks ago.  Being there was motivating; I still have the fire to train and compete.  I just have to be patient.

I was planning to do a dressing change today, I got back later than planned, so I will just wait until tomorrow.

Day 9 Recap - Wednesday, July 9, 2014

Pretty decent night.  I tried a new strategy, and it seemed to work.  I went to sleep as soon as I laid down (before my foot started to hurt).  Prior to this strategy, I would usually lay in bed and watch Netflix for a little while.  Anyway, I did wake up two or three times, with some pain, but I was able to ignore it and get back to sleep without much of an issue.

The rest of the day was good.  Jodi had to work early, so I was pretty much on my own.  I know this doesn't seem like a big deal, but it kinda is.  It's difficult making breakfast on crutches, but I was able to eventually figure it out.  Everything just takes longer.  Spent most of the day on the couch and working on the computer.

Continuing to use two crutches and ice a lot.  Hopefully a breakthrough is in the near future.

Day 8 Recap - Tuesday, July 8, 2014 (4th dressing change)

Last night was pretty rough.  I was hoping the nights would start to improve, but no luck.  Didn't get much sleep.  There was a constant ache that I couldn't seem to shake.

The day went well.  I was able to get out of the house again for track club/xc practice.  I got a ride with Pat.  It went well.  Again, it was nice to get out of the house.  After practice, I showered.  I know I showered yesterday (had been showering every other day), but I'd also been to two practices since then.  I really just sat around at practice, but you still get hot, and a shower felt good.  I didn't take any pics.  Not much has changed.

Day 7 Recap - Monday, July 7, 2014 (3rd dressing change) - pics

The night wasn't as bad as the last couple, so that was good.  Hopefully, the nights will get easier.

The day went well.  It was the first time since my surgery that I left the house!  I've been going crazy cooped up on the couch all day, so it was a welcomed adventure.  Jodi and I went to CP Track Club for the evening cross country practice.  Overall, it seemed to go well.  I set up a chair on the football field, and pretty much sat around.  I know it doesn't seem like much, but it was a welcomed change.

Before I went to track club, I showered.  The incision continues to look good.  I am a little concerned about the swelling and bruising.  They are both very prevalent.  I do feel like I'm a little behind schedule because I've been given the green light to transition to 1 crutch (1 week on 2 crutches, and 1 week on 1 crutch).  However, I am not ready for it yet.  My foot is still not able to handle the additional weight.  I am going to stick with two crutches for a few more days, and hope that it continues to heal.  If it doesn't seem to improve, I will more than likely contact the doctor to see if there is something wrong.

Day 6 Recap - Sunday, July 6, 2014

The night continues to be a my struggle.  I finally gave up on wearing the boot, and took it off once it started hurting.  My guess is that something in the boot liner is pushing against my heel (this does not happen when I'm wearing the cyro cuff during the day).  I didn't have issues once I took off the boot.  When I woke up, it was a little painful to get my heel all the way down into the boot (kinda of a burning pain).

The day went very well.  In fact, I only took my pain killers in the morning and at night.  I did take my antibiotics during the day (like I was supposed to).  Hopefully it's a step in the right direction.  Still on two crutches, and I haven't biked.
